In a sharp political attack, BSP chief Mayawati has intensified the war of words against Samajwadi Party and Congress, accusing them of opportunistic politics over Dalit icons ahead of upcoming elections.

Referring to BSP founder Kanshi Ram, Mayawati alleged that parties which once ignored and sidelined him are now celebrating his birth anniversary and demanding Bharat Ratna status merely to gain electoral advantage. She described this shift as “ironic” and politically motivated.

Mayawati further claimed that these parties have historically attempted to weaken BSP, the party founded by Kanshi Ram himself. She asserted that under her leadership, the party remains strong and cannot be destabilized. Positioning herself as his sole political successor, she emphasized the ideological continuity of BSP.

In a strongly worded statement, she also criticized opposition leaders for allegedly lacking influential figures of their own, forcing them to “appropriate” icons from other movements. She accused previous Samajwadi Party governments of altering or undoing key initiatives and memorial works carried out during BSP rule, calling it evidence of a “double standard.”

The remarks also extended to certain sections within the Dalit community, with Mayawati advising them to stay cautious of what she described as misleading political narratives. She invoked Kanshi Ram’s book “Chamcha Yug” to underline her point about opportunism in politics.

As elections approach, this statement has added a new layer of tension to Uttar Pradesh politics, highlighting an intensifying battle over legacy, identity, and vote banks.
