Unani Health Tips by Dr Maniram: *Report on Breastfeeding Awareness Program*
Organised at State Takmeel-ut-Tib College and Hospital, Lucknow

A Breastfeeding Awareness Program was successfully organised today at the State Takmeel-ut-Tib College and Hospital, Lucknow with the aim of promoting the importance of breastfeeding for both mother and child.

The program was graced by the esteemed presence of Professor Ataullah Khan (Head of the Department of Tahaffuzi wa Samaji Tib)
Dr. Abdul Malik, Reader, Department of Tashreehul Badan and Incharge, Hospital; and Dr. Zaki Ahmad Siddiqui (Lecturer, Department of Moalejat). The event was held under the guidance of the *Professor Maniram Singh* Head of Department (HOD) Department of Niswan Wa Qabalat along with the active participation of faculty members, department scholars, interns, and at least 50 patients.
*Objective of the Program:*
The primary objective was to spread awareness regarding the vital role of breastfeeding in improving infant and maternal health and to encourage mothers to initiate and continue breastfeeding exclusively for the first six months.
*Key Highlights of the Program:*
The program began with a welcome speech by the HOD, who emphasised the significance of breastfeeding as the foundation of a healthy life.
*Experts from the department delivered presentations focusing on:*
The benefits of breastfeeding for both baby and mother.
The importance of colostrum (the first milk) as the baby’s first vaccine.
The WHO and UNICEF guidelines, recommending exclusive breastfeeding for the first six months, followed by continued breastfeeding along with appropriate complementary foods for up to two years or beyond.
Common myths and misconceptions regarding breastfeeding were addressed and clarified.
Interns and scholars engaged in an interactive session with the attending patients, where they:
Discussed proper latching techniques.
Demonstrated correct breastfeeding positions.
Provided answers to patient queries and concerns.
Special focus was given to the theme of *World Breastfeeding Week 2025: “Priorities Breastfeeding”*, highlighting the importance of workplace support for breastfeeding mothers and create sustainable support system .
*Outcome:*
The event witnessed enthusiastic participation and appreciation from patients and attendees. The awareness program was successful in educating many mothers and caregivers on the importance of exclusive breastfeeding and ensuring support for nursing mothers at home and work.
*Conclusion:*
The Breastfeeding Awareness Program served as a meaningful initiative to empower mothers with knowledge and practical guidance. It fostered a supportive environment for breastfeeding through awareness, education, and community involvement.
