In a remarkable example of honesty and dedication, two employees of the Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation returned a lost bag containing ₹5 lakh to its rightful owner, drawing appreciation from Dayashankar Singh, the Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Transport in Uttar Pradesh.
According to official information, the bus bearing number UP78KT2112 from the Azamgarh depot was operating on the route from Azamgarh to Lucknow. During the journey, four passengers boarded the bus at Jagdishpur and later disembarked at the Alambagh Bus Terminal. In the rush of travel, one of them accidentally left behind a bag inside the bus.
The driver, Sandeep Pandey, and the conductor, Ramesh Chandra Yadav, noticed the unattended bag during routine checking. Instead of ignoring it, they safely kept it with them and waited for the passenger to return. When the passenger came searching for the lost bag, the staff handed it over intact.
The bag reportedly contained cash worth ₹5 lakh along with important documents and other personal belongings. The passenger expressed immense relief and gratitude after receiving the bag safely.
Praising the act, Minister Dayashankar Singh stated that such gestures highlight the honesty, responsibility, and service spirit of transport department employees. He added that these incidents help strengthen public trust in the transport system and serve as an inspiration for others.
Following the minister’s appreciation, the Managing Director of the corporation, Prabhu N Singh, directed that the employees be formally honoured. At the regional manager’s office in Azamgarh, both the driver and conductor were felicitated with gifts and commendation.
Officials said that their act of integrity has enhanced the reputation of the Azamgarh depot and set an example of ethical conduct in public service.
