The Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), in collaboration with the National Productivity Council (NPC), organized a ‘Boiler Chintan Shivir’ in Hyderabad to strengthen innovation and align the boiler industry with India’s long-term Vision 2047 goals.
The consultative forum brought together representatives from state governments, boiler manufacturers, users, Third-Party Inspection Authorities (TPIAs), and other key stakeholders. Discussions focused on building a robust regulatory framework while promoting safety, modernization, and operational efficiency in the sector.
Participants were informed that the pre-Constitution era Boilers Act, 1923 had been reviewed and re-enacted as the Boiler Act, 2025, effective May 1, 2025. Given its critical role in ensuring life and property safety, the updated law retains core provisions while modernizing regulatory aspects to suit current industry needs.
Technical sessions covered the provisions of the Boiler Act, 2025, associated rules and regulations, ease of doing business measures, and the responsibilities of third-party inspection authorities. Experts also addressed key issues such as residual life assessment of aging boilers, adoption of advanced manufacturing technologies, and challenges in installing supercritical boilers.
The event concluded with a panel discussion and open dialogue, inviting suggestions to rationalize compliance requirements, reduce regulatory burdens, and enhance ease of doing business—without compromising safety standards.
