Uttar Pradesh is set to witness a major transformation in rural mobility as the Chief Minister’s Gram Transport Scheme gathers pace. With over 1,000 applications received from all 20 transport regions, the initiative is moving swiftly towards implementation, promising to bridge the long-standing connectivity gap in rural areas.
According to Transport Minister Dayashankar Singh, the selection process will be completed in April, and mini bus operations are expected to begin from May 2026. The strong response reflects growing participation from private operators and highlights the demand for improved rural transport infrastructure.
Regions like Saharanpur, Prayagraj, Varanasi, and Moradabad recorded a high number of applications, indicating widespread interest. The scheme aims to connect approximately 59,163 gram panchayats across the state, with an initial rollout covering around 12,200 villages through privately operated mini buses.
These buses, with a seating capacity of 15 to 28 passengers, will provide direct and affordable connectivity from villages to block headquarters, tehsils, and district centers. The initiative is designed not just as a transport solution but as a catalyst for rural development by improving access to education, healthcare, and employment opportunities.
The minister has directed officials to ensure timely execution without delays, emphasizing accountability and efficiency. The focus remains on integrating remote and underserved villages into the mainstream transport network.
This ambitious scheme is expected to significantly enhance rural mobility, stimulate local economies, and improve the overall quality of life for millions of residents across Uttar Pradesh.
