Experts Warn at Cardiocon 2026, Stress Early Screening and Lifestyle Changes
Anytime News Network: Rapidly changing lifestyles, unhealthy eating habits, and lack of physical activity are leading to a sharp rise in diabetes, obesity, and high blood pressure cases. Cardiology experts have warned that the combination of these three conditions significantly increases the risk of heart disease. Negligence may lead to serious complications such as heart attack and stroke.
This was stated by Dr. Rishi Sethi, Head of the Lari Cardiology Department at King George’s Medical University (KGMU). He was addressing delegates at Cardiocon 2026, held at the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Scientific Convention Center. The conference was organized by the Cardiological Society of India.
Dr. Sethi explained that diabetes leads to elevated blood sugar levels, which damage blood vessels and increase the risk of blockages in arteries supplying blood to the heart. Obesity—particularly abdominal fat—raises bad cholesterol (LDL) levels and puts additional strain on the heart. High blood pressure, often called the “silent killer,” gradually weakens the heart muscles when left uncontrolled.
He emphasized that individuals suffering from diabetes along with obesity or high BP face an even greater risk of developing heart disease. Regular health check-ups, balanced nutrition, and physical activity are essential preventive measures.
Dr. Dhiman Kahali, National President of the Cardiological Society of India, advised maintaining a healthy weight, limiting sugar and salt intake, avoiding fast food and processed items, and engaging in regular exercise.
Dr. Akshay Pradhan recommended that individuals above 30 years of age should undergo routine screening for blood sugar, blood pressure, and cholesterol. A daily 30-minute walk, quitting smoking, avoiding fried foods, and managing stress are crucial steps in protecting heart health.
