🇮🇳 February 12, 2026: Nationwide General Strike Sees Massive Response

🔵 Over 300 Million Participate

The Joint Platform of Central Trade Unions and Independent Sectoral Federations stated that more than 300 million workers, farmers, and other sections joined the nationwide general strike on February 12, 2026. The strike was organized against what they termed anti-people and pro-corporate policies of the central government.

🔵 Impact Across 600+ Districts

The strike witnessed widespread mobilization across over 600 districts, cutting across organized and unorganized sectors, rural and urban India. Puducherry, Assam, Odisha, Jharkhand, Tamil Nadu, Punjab, Kerala, West Bengal, and Goa reported near shutdown conditions. Several regions in Rajasthan, Haryana, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Meghalaya, Manipur, and Tripura also observed large-scale protests.

🔵 Key Sectors Affected

Coal, steel, banking, LIC, GIC, petroleum, power, postal services, telecom, atomic energy, cement, ports, tea gardens, jute mills, and transport services were significantly impacted. Defence sector employees observed a one-hour work stoppage in solidarity.

🔵 Major Demands

  • Repeal of the four Labour Codes

  • Withdrawal of Draft Seed Bill and Electricity Amendment Bill

  • Rollback of the SHANTI Act

  • Restoration of MGNREGA

  • Reversal of 100% FDI in insurance

  • Halt to privatization of public sector units

  • Filling of vacant government posts

  • Reconsideration of USA-India trade deal

🔵 Allegations Against Government

The joint platform alleged that the Labour Codes undermine the right to strike and weaken collective bargaining. It accused the government of prioritizing corporate interests over workers’ welfare and social security.

🔵 Major Rally in Delhi

A large rally was held at Jantar Mantar in Delhi, addressed by leaders of INTUC, AITUC, HMS, CITU, AIUTUC, TUCC, SEWA, AICCTU, UTUC and others. Opposition MPs also expressed solidarity within the Parliament premises.
