In a significant push toward rural digital empowerment, the Digital Bharat Nidhi under the Department of Telecommunications signed a Memorandum of Cooperation with the Government of Andhra Pradesh for the expedited rollout of the revised BharatNet programme.
The agreement was formalized in the presence of Union Communications Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia, Minister of State Pemmasani Chandra Sekhar and Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu.
The Government of India has approved ₹2,432 crore in financial assistance for the project, which will cover 13,426 ग्राम पंचायतों across the state. The initiative includes upgrading earlier phases to robust ring topology networks and extending last-mile connectivity to thousands of villages.
Officials emphasized that the revised BharatNet programme aims to deliver high-speed broadband to every village, strengthening digital governance, online education, telemedicine, and financial inclusion in rural areas.
The partnership underscores a shared commitment to building resilient telecom infrastructure and advancing India’s vision of a digitally empowered society.
