The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has released the findings of the 72nd round of its Order Books, Inventories and Capacity Utilisation Survey (OBICUS), indicating improved performance in India’s manufacturing sector during October–December 2025 (Q3 FY 2025-26).

The survey shows that capacity utilisation (CU) rose to 75.6%, up from 74.3% in the previous quarter. The seasonally adjusted CU also increased to 75.5%, reflecting a positive trend in industrial activity compared to the same period last year.

While new orders recorded growth on a year-on-year basis, they witnessed a marginal decline on a quarter-on-quarter basis, suggesting stable but slightly fluctuating demand conditions.

Inventory patterns revealed a decline in finished goods inventory ratios, while raw material inventories increased, indicating preparation for higher production levels in upcoming quarters.

Alongside the results, RBI has also launched the 73rd round of OBICUS for January–March 2026. The survey will collect data on orders, production, inventories, and capacity utilisation, providing key inputs for monetary policy decisions.

Selected manufacturing firms will be approached directly, while others can voluntarily participate by submitting responses through RBI’s official platform. The central bank assured that all company-level data will remain strictly confidential.
