Scholarships for Army Wards, Advanced Medical Care for Soldiers Announced
Anytime News Network In a significant step toward strengthening welfare measures for defence families, the Indian Army has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Mahatma Gandhi University of Medical Sciences & Technology (MGUMST), Jaipur, Rajasthan. The partnership aims to expand educational opportunities for the wards of Army personnel while also ensuring access to advanced medical treatment for serving and retired soldiers and their families.
Under the agreement, meritorious students from Army families who secure admission to Mahatma Gandhi Medical College and Mahatma Gandhi Dental College will receive scholarships of ₹1,00,000 per year. This initiative is expected to reduce the financial burden on defence families and encourage talented students to pursue careers in medical sciences.
Additionally, students enrolling in allied health institutions under MGUMST will benefit from a 33% tuition fee scholarship, further promoting professional education among the children of Army personnel.
The MoU also focuses strongly on healthcare support. Serving and retired Army personnel, along with their families, will now have access to free medical and surgical management at the university’s medical facilities. However, the coverage excludes the cost of medicines and disposables.
Importantly, the facility will cater to ailments not covered under the Ex-Servicemen Contributory Health Scheme (ECHS) and to cases requiring specialized treatment that may not be available at defence medical establishments. This provision is expected to significantly improve access to quality healthcare for veterans and active-duty soldiers alike.
Officials believe the collaboration reflects the Indian Army’s continued commitment to the welfare, education, and health security of its personnel. The initiative not only supports academic aspirations but also reinforces a dependable healthcare framework for those who serve the nation, marking another progressive move toward comprehensive defence welfare.
