Mayawati Slams Govt: “Slogans Can’t Fix Hunger, Job Crisis Deepens”

“Self-Reliance Reduced to Rhetoric”—Serious Questions on Economic Direction

Lucknow, March 31, 2026: Mayawati, chief of the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), launched a scathing attack on both central and state governments, accusing them of failing to address the growing economic distress faced by millions. During a key पार्टी meeting, she asserted that rising unemployment, inflation, and widening inequality have pushed common citizens into a deep crisis.

Mayawati said that in a large and populous state like Uttar Pradesh, the issue of “livelihood and survival” has reached alarming levels. She alleged that governments are relying on hollow promises and rhetoric instead of delivering real solutions, leaving the poor and working classes to bear the brunt of economic hardships.

Highlighting global factors, she pointed to tensions in West Asia and the resulting fuel crisis, which have significantly driven up the cost of essential commodities. According to her, this has worsened the financial burden on ordinary households, creating a “compounding crisis” where survival itself is becoming difficult.

She also questioned the government’s “Self-Reliant India” vision, calling it more of a slogan than a reality. She emphasized that true self-reliance requires strong policy action, reduced dependence on private sectors, and inclusive economic planning.

Further raising concerns over reservation policies and social justice, Mayawati alleged that current regimes are diluting protections meant for marginalized communities. She stressed that without a government committed to “Bahujan welfare,” inclusive development would remain out of reach.

Calling for stronger opposition unity and long-term policy planning, she warned that continued inaction could worsen socio-economic conditions. She also directed party workers to intensify grassroots efforts and remain disciplined ahead of upcoming elections, asserting that people are now looking towards BSP with renewed hope.
