SACTEM and SGPGI Conduct Hands-On Mechanical Ventilation Workshop for 80+ Doctors, Including 20 Senior Government Physicians Trained Free of Cost

Lucknow, 10 August 2025 – The Society of Acute Care, Trauma and Emergency Medicine (SACTEM), in collaboration with Sanjay Gandhi Postgraduate Institute of Medical Sciences (SGPGI), successfully organised a hands-on workshop on Mechanical Ventilation today, attended by over 80 participants from across Uttar Pradesh.

The workshop brought together eminent faculty from the Departments of Emergency Medicine, Anaesthesia, and Critical Care at SGPGI. Recognising the vital role of ventilators in saving lives in emergency and ICU settings, the organisers highlighted the pressing gap in ventilator training for doctors in government medical colleges and district hospitals such as Balrampur Civil and Lokbandhu.

To address this need, SACTEM provided free-of-cost training to 20 senior government doctors, selected by the Health and Education Departments of Uttar Pradesh. Despite most government hospitals being equipped with ventilators, lack of adequate training often results in their underutilisation.

“SACTEM has so far trained more than 500 government doctors in life-saving skills, completely free of cost, with active support from the government,” said Dr. Lokendra Gupta, Founder and President of SACTEM. “Ventilator training should be made compulsory for every doctor working in emergency and trauma care.”

The workshop was meticulously organised by Dr. O. P. Sanjeev, Dr. Prateek Singh Bais, and Dr. Tapas Kumar Singh, with a specially designed curriculum tailored for emergency departments.

Distinguished faculty included:

• Dr. L. D. Mishra, State Nodal Officer, Emergency and Trauma Services, Government of Uttar Pradesh

• Dr. Banani Poddar, Head of Critical Care Medicine, SGPGI

• Dr. R. K. Singh, Head of Emergency Medicine, SGPGI & Nodal Officer, Tele-ICU, Government of Uttar Pradesh

• Dr. S. S. Tripathi, Head of Emergency Medicine, RML Lucknow

This collaborative effort reflects SACTEM’s continued commitment to capacity building in emergency medicine, bridging skill gaps, and ensuring that critical care equipment is effectively utilised to save lives.
