ECI Conducts Comprehensive Review in Assam

The Election Commission of India (ECI) has initiated a detailed review of preparedness for the forthcoming Assam Legislative Assembly Elections. Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, along with Election Commissioners Dr. Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Dr. Vivek Joshi, chaired a two-day review meeting in Guwahati.

Direct Interaction with Political Parties

On the first day of the visit, the Commission met representatives of recognized national and state political parties including AAP, BJP, CPI(M), Congress, AIUDF, AGP, UPPL, and BPF.

Political parties were given the opportunity to present their views and concerns to ensure transparent and impartial elections. Most parties requested that the polls be conducted in a single phase or a maximum of two phases. They also urged the Commission to consider the Bihu festival while scheduling election dates.

Appreciation for Electoral Roll Revision

The parties appreciated the Special Revision of Electoral Rolls conducted in Assam and offered suggestions to maintain peace and order during the election process.

Detailed Review with Officials

Following the political consultations, the Commission reviewed election planning with IGs, DIGs, District Election Officers, and SSPs. Discussions covered EVM management, logistics, staff training, seizures, law and order, voter awareness campaigns, and outreach activities.

Emphasis on Constitutional Compliance

CEC Gyanesh Kumar stressed that elections must be conducted strictly in accordance with the Constitution, relevant laws, and ECI guidelines. He directed officials to maintain complete impartiality and ensure swift redressal of grievances raised by political parties.

Festive and Voter-Friendly Polling Stations

The Commission instructed authorities to create a pleasant voting experience by making polling stations festive, welcoming, and voter-friendly.

Strict Monitoring of Fake News

Officials were directed to closely monitor social media for fake news and take prompt legal action wherever necessary.

The Commission’s proactive approach is aimed at ensuring free, fair, and peaceful elections in Assam.
