In a significant gesture aimed at promoting social harmony and interfaith respect, the All India Muslim Majlis has extended its support to the demand for granting the cow the status of “Rashtra Mata” (Mother of the Nation) and imposing a complete ban on cow slaughter in India.
The organization submitted a memorandum to Avimukteshwaranand Saraswati, the Shankaracharya of Jyotirmath, expressing solidarity with the proposal and highlighting the need to respect religious sentiments in a diverse country like India.
According to the memorandum signed by the organization’s National President Wasi Ahmad, India is a multi-religious and multicultural society where respecting each other’s beliefs and traditions forms the foundation of the nation’s shared heritage and constitutional values.
The letter emphasized that in Sanatan Dharma, the cow is revered as sacred and holds deep emotional and spiritual significance for millions of people. Recognizing and respecting such sentiments, the Muslim organization stated that supporting the demand could strengthen mutual understanding and trust among communities.
The memorandum further noted that a society becomes stronger when different communities show sensitivity and respect toward each other’s faith and traditions. Such gestures, it said, can naturally counter politics driven by hatred, mistrust, and social divisions.
The organization also highlighted that India’s centuries-old “Ganga-Jamuni” culture represents coexistence, mutual respect, and shared values among diverse communities. Supporting each other’s beliefs, the Majlis argued, could further reinforce this cultural harmony.
In today’s environment, the memorandum stressed, the nation needs dialogue, respect, and coexistence rather than confrontation. If communities come forward with positive intent on sensitive issues, it can significantly strengthen peace, social unity, and national integration.
The All India Muslim Majlis expressed hope that this initiative would help foster trust among communities and contribute to building a more harmonious and united India.
