major step towards improving employability among rural youth, the Uttar Pradesh Sugar Industry and Cane Development Department has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Skills Development Network (SDN), an initiative of the Wadhwani Foundation. The partnership aims to provide job-oriented education, skill development, and placement support to students studying in institutions supported by cooperative cane societies.
Around 15,440 students studying in nine intermediate colleges and higher educational institutions will benefit from the initiative. In the first phase, nearly 3,500 students will receive specialized skill development training ranging from 75 to 90 hours.
Officials said that academic degrees alone are no longer enough in today’s competitive job market. Therefore, students will be trained in communication skills, interview preparation, digital literacy, leadership, teamwork, problem-solving, workplace behavior, and personality development to make them industry-ready.
A key highlight of the program is the introduction of an Artificial Intelligence-powered Learning Management System (LMS). The platform will provide free access to digital content, video lectures, assessments, and interactive learning resources for both students and teachers.
Special emphasis will be placed on empowering girl students under the “Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao” initiative. The program will also encourage entrepreneurship through dedicated modules designed to help young people develop business ideas, understand startup opportunities, and build self-employment capabilities.
Experts from India and abroad will conduct online and offline workshops, masterclasses, career counseling sessions, and motivational seminars. Students will gain exposure to emerging technologies, industry trends, and future employment opportunities.
The foundation will also assist institutions in connecting students with internships, placements, and career opportunities at both local and national levels. Regular monitoring and evaluation will be carried out to measure skill enhancement, employment outcomes, and career growth.
Officials believe this initiative will bridge the gap between education and employment while helping rural youth become globally competitive and economically self-reliant.
