Lucknow, May 2026 — A massive crackdown by the Food Safety and Drug Administration (FSDA), Uttar Pradesh, has exposed alarming irregularities in the dairy sector. Acting under the directive of the Commissioner, 14 special enforcement teams conducted surprise inspections across Lucknow, Barabanki, Kanpur Nagar, and Kanpur Dehat, targeting major milk and dairy product manufacturing units.
The operation led to the collection of 56 samples and the seizure of nearly 388 tons of food materials worth an estimated ₹15.8 crore. Legal action has been initiated against 9 units, while 4 were found non-operational during inspection.
The most shocking revelation came from Bhole Baba Dairy in Kanpur Dehat, where expired skimmed milk powder was allegedly being repacked with fresh labels and new manufacturing dates. Authorities seized 227 tons of milk powder valued at approximately ₹15.2 crore and recommended suspension of its central license.
Meanwhile, units of the Namaste India brand were flagged for poor hygiene and sanitation standards, with expired products destroyed on-site. Amul brand units faced scrutiny over labeling deficiencies and misleading health claims, leading to improvement notices. In Lucknow, Swadesh Milk Products (Shuddh brand) was found using non-food-grade additives and contaminated spices, resulting in seizure and strict action.
This high-impact raid highlights serious lapses in food safety compliance and raises concerns about public health. Officials have reiterated that such enforcement drives will continue, sending a strong message to violators across the state.
