“Farmers Say One Thing, Do Another” Comment Sparks Anger at Kharif Productivity Seminar

A state-level agriculture event organised in Lucknow turned controversial after farmers strongly objected to a remark allegedly made during a farmer-scientist-official interaction session at the “State-Level Kharif Productivity Seminar 2026.”
The programme, held at Indira Gandhi Pratishthan, marked the launch of the “Grow Safe Food Campaign 2.0,” an initiative aimed at improving kharif crop productivity, promoting safe food production, and encouraging scientific farming practices across Uttar Pradesh. Senior officials from the agriculture, horticulture, fisheries, and livestock departments attended the event along with a large number of farmers.
The controversy erupted when, during the interaction session, a statement was reportedly made suggesting that “farmers do one thing and report something else.” The comment immediately triggered resentment among the attending farmers, many of whom described it as disrespectful and insulting to the farming community.
Several farmers openly protested during the programme, arguing that such remarks reflect distrust toward those who are directly involved in food production. Farmers stated that instead of being treated as stakeholders and partners in agricultural reforms, they were being unfairly portrayed with suspicion.
Participants pointed out that farmers are already struggling with rising cultivation costs, unpredictable weather conditions, and unstable market prices. In such circumstances, they said, insensitive comments from officials only damage morale and weaken trust between farmers and the administration.
Some farmers also alleged that government events often focus more on presenting official narratives rather than seriously listening to the practical difficulties faced at the ground level. According to attendees, the reaction inside the hall clearly reflected growing frustration among cultivators over the lack of respectful engagement in policy discussions.
Although no official clarification was issued regarding the controversial statement, the incident overshadowed the event’s larger agenda on sustainable agriculture and safe food production. Farmers demanded that future government interactions should be conducted with greater sensitivity and mutual respect.
