A large traders’ gathering in Hapur, addressed by Vineet Agarwal Sharda, turned into a platform for strong claims about pro-business policies of the Uttar Pradesh government. However, beneath the praise, several concerns about the actual challenges faced by traders remained unaddressed.
Sharda highlighted key decisions like lifetime validity for food department registrations and raising the ₹100 license fee limit from ₹12 lakh turnover to ₹1.5 crore. While projected as major relief measures, many small and medium traders continue to struggle with GST pressures, inflation, and rising competition—issues that saw little concrete discussion during the event.
He described the nine-year tenure of Yogi Adityanath as a “golden era” of governance and development. Yet, critics argue that such narratives often overlook economic disparities and the stress on small businesses across the state.
Law and order improvements were also emphasized, with claims of strict action against criminals. However, observers point out that such sweeping statements may oversimplify complex ground realities.
The most contentious moment came when Sharda demanded closure of meat shops across Uttar Pradesh on the occasion of the Hindu New Year. The proposal has triggered debate over balancing cultural sentiments with economic freedom, as it could directly impact a section of traders.
While other leaders echoed support for the government, the overall tone of the event appeared more political than
problem-solving, raising questions about whether traders’ real issues are being adequately addressed.
