Mumbai: Kimberley Process Intersessional Meeting 2026 concluded successfully in Mumbai under India’s presidency, with global stakeholders focusing on the future of the natural diamond industry, transparency, and consumer trust. The four-day international conference brought together Kimberley Process participants, industry bodies, civil society groups, and observers from across the world.
Addressing the closing session, Piyush Goyal reaffirmed India’s commitment to strengthening credibility, compliance, and consumer confidence — described as the “3Cs” — within the global natural diamond trade. He stated that India recognises the Kimberley Process as a crucial mechanism for preserving trust and responsibility in the diamond supply chain.
Piyush Goyal highlighted that the natural diamond sector supports millions of livelihoods across producing, processing, and consumer nations. As one of the world’s leading centres for diamond cutting and polishing, India aims to ensure that the industry remains transparent, responsible, and aligned with evolving consumer expectations.
During the intersessional meeting, various working groups and committees discussed governance reforms, monitoring systems, technical procedures, statistics, and production-related issues. Participants emphasised the need to improve operational mechanisms and reinforce confidence in the global natural diamond value chain.
KP Chair 2026 Suchindra Mishra stated that the progress achieved during the Mumbai conference reflected a shared international commitment to keeping the Kimberley Process credible, relevant, and responsive to changing global market dynamics. He stressed that consumer trust remains the foundation of the natural diamond business.
Delegates also underlined the importance of improving communication and public awareness regarding responsible sourcing practices and the positive developmental impact of the diamond industry in producing nations. Discussions held during the Mumbai meeting are expected to continue later this year at the KP Plenary Session scheduled in New Delhi.
India reiterated its commitment to promoting transparency, sustainability, and ethical practices in the global natural diamond trade through the Kimberley Process framework.
