Bahujan Samaj Party chief Mayawati paid tribute to social reformer Jyotirao Phule on his birth anniversary, emphasizing his pioneering role in social transformation and education.

In her message, she highlighted the contributions of Phule and his wife Savitribai Phule in promoting women’s education and empowerment. She stated that their efforts laid the foundation for an inclusive and aware society.

Quoting Phule’s ideology, she stressed that lack of education leads to social backwardness. She also noted that B R Ambedkar drew inspiration from Phule and prioritized education as a tool for empowerment.

Mayawati also criticized the Samajwadi Party, alleging that it changed the names of districts that were earlier named after social icons during the BSP शासन. She mentioned that districts like Jyotiba Phule Nagar (Amroha), Kanshiram Nagar, Ramabai Nagar, Bhimnagar, Prabuddh Nagar, and Panchsheel Nagar were renamed, calling it a reflection of narrow political thinking.

She asserted that Phule’s efforts in the 19th century sparked a wave of social reform, especially for Dalits, backward classes, and women, not only in Maharashtra but across India.

Reaffirming her party’s commitment, Mayawati said BSP continues to stand for social justice, equality, and dignity for all sections of society.
