The “Art of Birthing Conclave 2026” held in Lucknow brought together national and international experts to discuss critical issues related to maternal and neonatal health. Organising Chair Dr Preeti Kumar stated that the conclave focuses on empowering midwives and frontline healthcare workers through skill-based training and evidence-based practices.

She emphasized that integrating global expertise with practical training can significantly reduce maternal and neonatal mortality rates. Dr Bhaskar Pal, President of Federation of Obstetric and Gynaecological Societies of India, highlighted the organization’s mission to ensure safe and respectful childbirth for every woman.

Chief Guest Amit Kumar Ghosh pointed out that cesarean delivery rates have surged from 20–25% to nearly 40–50%, largely due to high-risk pregnancies linked to anemia, obesity, hypertension, and diabetes. He stressed that the goal is not to reduce numbers but to ensure safe deliveries.

Organising Secretary Dr Seema Mehrotra explained that workshops and scientific sessions provided hands-on training in delivery management, postpartum care, and newborn health. Dr Sujata Dev underlined the critical role of midwives in ensuring respectful maternity care.

The event was supported by global organizations such as UNICEF, UNFPA India, Jhpiego, and Laerdal Global Health.

Over 500 participants, including nurses, midwives, and maternal health experts, attended the conclave. Skill stations provided practical training in postpartum hemorrhage control, newborn resuscitation, and safe delivery techniques.

Experts also stressed the importance of preconception counseling, antenatal care, anemia management, and mental health support. The conclave marks a significant step toward improving maternal and newborn health outcomes in India.
