A major controversy surrounding the election of Shri Nidhi Cooperative Credit Society Ltd in Lucknow has taken a decisive turn, with authorities declaring the 2024 चुनाव invalid due to serious irregularities.

The society, registered on July 26, 2023 under the Uttar Pradesh Cooperative Societies Act, 1965, conducted its first management committee elections on September 19–20, 2024. However, allegations soon surfaced that none of the 48 members were properly informed about the election, raising serious concerns about transparency and fairness.

Further controversy emerged over the alleged manipulation of the official address. Records with the cooperative department showed a registered office in Rail Nagar, Lucknow, but the election was reportedly conducted at a different location mentioned in a newspaper notice, leading to questions over procedural legitimacy.

Aggrieved members approached the District Magistrate Lucknow, filing a dispute petition. Following this, the Sub-Divisional Magistrate (Sadar), Lucknow was appointed as arbitrator. In a detailed order dated March 30, 2026, the authority declared the election null and void based on evidence and submissions.

The ruling highlighted gross violations in the election process and directed that fresh elections be conducted in a fair and transparent manner.

Chief Promoter Jagdish Narayan Bhatt welcomed the decision, calling it a victory of truth and justice. He emphasized that the order would restore trust among members and ensure accountability in cooperative institutions.

The case underscores the importance of transparency in cooperative elections and sets a precedent for stricter compliance with legal norms in such bodies.
