Screening to End by April 13, Services Set to Begin in May

Uttar Pradesh is set to enhance rural connectivity under the Chief Minister Gram Transport Scheme, with the screening of applications progressing rapidly. State Transport Minister (Independent Charge) Dayashankar Singh announced that thousands of villages will soon be connected to district headquarters through improved public transport.
A total of 1003 applications were received from all 20 transport regions by March 28, 2026. Out of these, 286 applications have been selected so far, while the remaining are under scrutiny by district-level committees headed by District Magistrates. The minister has directed officials to complete the screening process by April 13.
He further stated that all formalities will be completed by the end of April, paving the way for the launch of mini bus services in May. These buses, with a seating capacity of 15 to 28 passengers, will operate on rural routes, directly linking villages with block, tehsil, and district headquarters.
Region-wise data highlights strong participation, with Saharanpur leading at 144 applications, followed by Prayagraj (118) and Varanasi (90). Other regions like Aligarh, Moradabad, Jhansi, and Lucknow also reported significant numbers.
The government aims to connect 59,163 gram panchayats, with around 12,200 villages set to receive public transport facilities, particularly in underserved areas.
The minister emphasized timely execution and strict monitoring, stating that the initiative will provide affordable, safe, and accessible transport, integrating rural populations into mainstream development.
