Modern Transport Push or Budgetary Optics?

₹400 Crore for E-Buses Announced, But Safety and Ground Reality Raise Concerns

Anytime News Network While Uttar Pradesh Transport Minister Dayashankar Singh has described the 2026–27 Budget as a bold step toward safer and greener public transport, critics argue that the allocations may fall short of addressing deep-rooted structural issues.

The government has earmarked ₹400 crore for procuring e-buses and ₹150 crore for bus station development. However, with an aging fleet and poor service standards across districts, observers question whether these allocations are adequate for a state of over 25 crore people.

A ₹50 crore provision under the “Chief Minister Road Safety Vision Scheme” has also drawn scrutiny, given Uttar Pradesh’s persistent record of high road accident fatalities. Experts suggest that systemic reforms—better enforcement, driver training, and infrastructure upgrades—are essential beyond financial announcements.

Similarly, ₹50 crore for EV charging stations at bus depots is seen as a positive but preliminary move, as the state’s EV ecosystem remains underdeveloped.

While the government projects the Budget as a transformational roadmap, analysts stress that real success will depend on transparent implementation and measurable outcomes rather than headline figures.
