Union Health Minister Jagat Prakash Nadda inaugurated an AI-powered e-ICU Command Center at Yashoda Medcity, marking a significant step toward technology-driven critical care services in India. The centralized system integrates real-time monitoring, hospital data, and AI-based risk assessment to improve patient outcomes, particularly in intensive care settings.
Addressing the gathering, Nadda emphasized that AI-enabled healthcare ensures timely intervention, precise diagnosis, and continuous monitoring — crucial factors in emergency and critical care scenarios. The new command center is digitally linked with MMG District Hospital, enabling round-the-clock expert supervision and early warning alerts for high-risk patients.
Highlighting broader reforms, the Minister noted that over 1.81 lakh Ayushman Arogya Mandirs are operational nationwide, with more than 50,000 already certified under National Quality Assurance Standards (NQAS). The government aims for 100% NQAS certification within the next two years.
He also referenced key digital health milestones, including over 45 crore teleconsultations through e-Sanjeevani and 11.47 crore registrations under the U-WIN maternal and child health tracking platform. AI-based screening tools have contributed to a 17% decline in TB incidence in India — significantly higher than the global average decline.
The launch of the SAHI (Strategy for AI in Healthcare for India) portal and the BODH (Benchmarking Open Data Platform for Health AI) initiative reflects the government’s commitment to ethical, transparent, and validated AI deployment in healthcare.
The initiative signals a transformative shift toward accessible, affordable, and technology-enabled healthcare delivery across India.
