The Uttar Pradesh Rajya Setu Nigam Employees Union celebrated its 34th foundation day and the 17th biennial convention and elections (2026-28) with a grand function held at the Setu Nigam headquarters in Lucknow on Wednesday. The programme was conducted by Central General Secretary Shishir Kumar Gupta and attended by several senior employee union leaders from across Uttar Pradesh.
During the general body meeting, Central President Ishrat Jah highlighted a series of pending employee demands and urged the management to implement earlier agreements reached between the union and the corporation administration. He stated that several decisions taken during meetings held in 2023 are still awaiting implementation, leading to growing dissatisfaction among employees.
The union strongly raised the issue of regularisation of Group-B and daily wage employees who have been serving for nearly 25 to 35 years. Despite continuous correspondence and discussions with the government since 2001, regularisation orders are yet to be issued. The employees’ union demanded immediate action on this matter.
The union also demanded medical reimbursement benefits and leave encashment facilities for long-serving Group-B and daily wage employees. According to union leaders, proposals regarding these benefits were earlier directed to be placed before the Board of Directors, but no final decision has yet been taken.
Another major issue highlighted during the event was the implementation of revised grade pay recommendations under the 2008 Pay Committee report. The union requested that employees of Setu Nigam be granted revised grade pay benefits similar to those provided to employees of Uttar Pradesh Rajkiya Nirman Nigam.
Several prominent employee leaders from different state-level organisations attended the programme and expressed solidarity with the union’s demands. Senior officials and employees of Setu Nigam were also felicitated during the ceremony.
The union once again reiterated its long-standing demand for the merger of Uttar Pradesh Rajya Setu Nigam with the Uttar Pradesh Public Works Department. According to the union, the shortage of staff in the Public Works Department and the declining workforce in Setu Nigam make the merger beneficial for both employees and the government.
Union leaders expressed hope that the government would take positive decisions on the pending issues to maintain industrial harmony and strengthen the corporation’s overall functioning and development.
