The Lucknow administration has initiated a major push to strengthen public transport infrastructure by improving connectivity between metro services and city transport systems. A high-level review meeting chaired by Divisional Commissioner Vijay Vishwas Pant focused on making metro travel more accessible, efficient, and commuter-friendly while reducing dependence on private vehicles in the state capital.

During the meeting, officials emphasized the urgent need for seamless integration between metro stations, feeder buses, parking facilities, and traffic management systems in view of the increasing traffic pressure across Lucknow. The Commissioner directed departments to prepare a coordinated action plan for improving last-mile connectivity and ensuring hassle-free travel for daily commuters.

Managing Director of UP Metro Rail Corporation, Sushil Kumar, informed the meeting that strengthening last-mile connectivity is essential for increasing metro ridership. He highlighted the importance of developing adequate parking infrastructure around metro stations so that commuters can safely park private vehicles and shift to metro services. The Lucknow Municipal Corporation confirmed that the tender process for identified parking sites has already begun and is expected to be finalized by June 15.

The administration also decided to launch an extensive awareness campaign promoting public transport usage. Digital displays, LED screens, public announcement systems, FM radio channels, and social media platforms will be used to educate citizens about the benefits of metro and city transport services. Officials believe that increasing awareness will encourage more people to adopt sustainable transportation options.

Special emphasis was laid on introducing shuttle bus services connecting major office hubs and busy locations to nearby metro stations. The Commissioner instructed officials to identify government employees, college students, university scholars, and school children as priority commuter groups who can regularly use metro services. Plans were also discussed for reorganizing electric bus routes and introducing new feeder routes wherever required.

In a significant move, the administration also proposed encouraging e-commerce and service provider companies such as Flipkart, Amazon, and Blinkit to utilize metro networks for bulk goods transportation. Officials stated that this initiative could reduce road congestion and improve urban traffic management in the future.

The meeting further directed civic authorities to intensify drives against illegal parking and encroachments near metro stations. Road repairs, lighting systems, sanitation, and closure of open manholes around metro corridors will also be prioritized to improve commuter convenience and safety.

Officials reiterated that modernizing public transport remains a top administrative priority, and all departments have been instructed to work in coordination to ensure timely implementation of the proposed measures.
