Lucknow: Mayawati has launched a sharp political attack on the Samajwadi Party over the recent controversy surrounding an alleged objectionable remark against the Brahmin community by one of the party’s national spokespersons. Calling the statement “insulting and irresponsible,” the BSP chief said the issue has triggered widespread anger and condemnation across Uttar Pradesh.
Mayawati stated that despite an FIR being lodged in the matter, the controversy continues to escalate due to what she described as the “silence” of the Samajwadi Party leadership. According to her, the failure of SP leaders to publicly address the matter or apologise has further intensified political and social tensions. She urged the party leadership to immediately seek forgiveness from the Brahmin community and show remorse over the incident.
In her strongly worded statement, Mayawati alleged that the Samajwadi Party’s caste-driven politics had become more deeply rooted over time. She claimed that, just like Dalits, extremely backward communities, and Muslims, the Brahmin community was now also facing what she termed as SP’s “anti-community mindset.”
The BSP supremo also indirectly criticised the present state government, claiming that dissatisfaction among Brahmins regarding the government’s approach was becoming increasingly visible. Highlighting her party’s political legacy, Mayawati asserted that the Bahujan Samaj Party has always ensured dignity, representation, and participation for every section of society without discrimination.
Political observers believe the controversy may further intensify caste-based political debates in Uttar Pradesh as parties attempt to consolidate key vote banks ahead of future elections. The ongoing war of words is expected to keep the political atmosphere heated in the coming weeks.
