Praveen Bhushan Srivastava, a painter from Lucknow, has claimed to have created the world’s tallest painting after dedicating 16 years to an extraordinary art project titled “The Space Ladder.” The massive artwork, created on a black canvas, measures 1104.6 feet in height and 41 centimeters in width.

According to the artist, work on the painting began in 2007 and was finally completed on January 22, 2026. The project reportedly cost nearly ₹7 lakh and involved the use of oil pastels, oil colours, water colours, and water enamel paints.
“The Space Ladder” visually represents 19 ancient civilizations, including the Harappan, Mesopotamian, and Sumerian civilizations. The artwork also features galaxies, 20 exoplanets, and extinct wildlife species, creating a unique blend of history, science, and imagination. In total, the painting contains 782 separate illustrations portraying the journey of humanity and the mysteries of space.
Praveen Bhushan claims that the previous record for the tallest painting belonged to an artist from the Philippines with a 135-foot artwork, making his creation a potential new world record contender.

The artist revealed that Lucknow currently lacks a suitable exhibition space for displaying such a gigantic artwork. He said organising a private exhibition would cost nearly ₹5 lakh, due to which discussions are underway with hot air balloon operators in Jaipur for a special public display.
Apart from painting, Praveen has also worked as a junior artist in films and has spent time in countries including Germany, the Netherlands, and Johannesburg. Over the years, he has created paintings of iconic landmarks such as the GPO, Raj Bhavan, Bara Imambara, and Lal Pul.
His ambitious artwork is now attracting attention as a rare fusion of art, culture, history, and space imagination created on an unprecedented scale.
