CII Conference on Cyber Security and Data Protection

 

The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) Uttar Pradesh successfully organized a comprehensive conference on *Cybersecurity and Data Protection* on 20 June 2024 at Lucknow. The event brought together industry leaders, cybersecurity experts, government officials, and academic professionals to discuss the evolving landscape of cybersecurity threats and the importance of data protection in today’s digital age.

 

*Ms Smita Agarwal, Chairperson, CII Uttar Pradesh and Director & CFO, PTC Industries Ltd*, highlighted the critical need for robust cybersecurity measures to safeguard businesses and individual data in an increasingly connected world. Ms Agarwal stated, “In an era where technology permeates every aspect of our lives, it is imperative that we join forces to address the pressing challenges posed by cybercrime. The digital landscape knows no borders, and the consequences of its vulnerabilities extend far beyond individual entities. The stakes are high, and it is only by collaborating, sharing knowledge, and working together that we can effectively safeguard our collective future.”

 

*Dr Subi Chaturvedi, Global SVP, Chief Corporate Affairs & Public Policy Officer, InMobi Group* emphasizing the growing importance of cybersecurity said that Cybersecurity is very important. India is more targeted by cyber-attacks compared to other countries in the world. State-sponsored cyber-attacks against India have increased by 278%. She added that every device is now a connective device, making it easier to hack these devices. Privacy should be considered critical. Furthermore, Dr. Subi stressed the necessity for organizations to stay informed about emerging threats and continuously update their security practices. She pointed out that cybersecurity is an ongoing process that requires constant vigilance and adaptation to new challenges.

She called upon organizations to prioritize data protection and invest in comprehensive security solutions to ensure the privacy and security of their digital assets and underscored that responsible data stewardship is essential for maintaining trust and integrity in the digital ecosystem.

 

 

*Mr Vishal Vikram Singh, Additional SP, UP Special Task Force (STF)* provided an insightful discussion on various types of cyber threats and their implications. He emphasized the diverse nature of these threats, ranging from phishing attacks and ransomware to advanced persistent threats (APTs) and state-sponsored cyber-attacks. He highlighted the importance of understanding these threats to effectively safeguard personal and organizational data. He apprised the audience about the government’s initiatives to combat cybercrime, particularly the ‘Chakshu’ portal, which facilitates the reporting of cybercrimes. He underscored the significance of such platforms in empowering citizens to take an active role in ensuring cybersecurity.

 

*Mr Raghav Krishna, Chair, Yi Lucknow and Co-Founder, CyberSecureIT* said that the landscape of cyber threats is constantly evolving, with increasingly sophisticated attacks targeting both individuals and organizations. It is crucial to stay vigilant and proactive in identifying potential vulnerabilities and implementing robust security measures to mitigate these risks.
