The focus on workplace quality, innovation and employee-driven problem-solving gained fresh momentum in Lucknow with the 39th CII Uttar Pradesh Quality Circle Competition 2026-27, organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) on September 11.
The Quality Circle team of Maruti Suzuki India Ltd emerged as the top performer, securing the first position in the preliminary round of the 39th CII Quality Circle Trophy. Denso India Pvt. Ltd. won the First Runner-Up Trophy, while Tata Motors Ltd. secured the Second Runner-Up position.
Quality Circles play an important role in building employee participation in organisational quality improvement. They provide shop-floor teams with a platform to identify operational challenges, analyse their root causes and develop practical solutions through collective effort.
The competition brought together Quality Circle teams from several manufacturing organisations, with participants presenting their projects before the jury. The teams were assessed across key parameters including problem-solving, problem analysis, solution identification, presentation skills, teamwork, innovation and creativity.
The judging panel included M. Venkatachalam, AGM–Quality, Eveready India, and S. Muthukumar, Head–QA/QC, Larsen & Toubro (Lucknow Cluster).
The event saw enthusiastic participation from shop-floor employees, workmen and quality heads representing several major industrial organisations. Teams from Tata Motors, Maruti Suzuki India Ltd, Triveni Almirah Pvt. Ltd., ZF Commercial Vehicle Control Systems India Ltd. (WABCO India), Denso India Pvt. Ltd., Bharat Electronics Ltd. and Ashok Leyland participated in the competition.
The event underlined how employee-led initiatives can convert everyday workplace challenges into opportunities for measurable improvement. Instead of limiting quality improvement to management-level decisions, Quality Circle activities bring frontline employees directly into the process of identifying problems and developing solutions.
The top three teams from the preliminary round will now advance to the regional final scheduled for December 2026, where they will compete against other leading teams.
The competition once again highlighted a critical message for the manufacturing sector: sustainable quality is not achieved by technology alone. It grows stronger when skilled employees, disciplined processes, innovation and teamwork work together.
