Dankuni–Surat Dedicated Freight Corridor to Boost MP’s Industrial Growth

Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw virtually flagged off two new train services — Bhopal–Dhanbad Tri-Weekly Express and Bhopal–Chopan Weekly Express — enhancing direct rail connectivity between Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, and Jharkhand. The launch event at Bhopal railway station was attended by Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav and other dignitaries.
The Bhopal–Dhanbad Express will halt at 30 stations, while the Bhopal–Chopan Express will cover 15 key stops, offering AC, sleeper, and general class coaches. These services are expected to strengthen passenger movement and support coal, mining, and industrial sectors, especially linking Singrauli with major hubs.
Vaishnaw highlighted that railway projects worth nearly ₹48,000 crore have been approved for Madhya Pradesh in recent years. Major multi-line and capacity expansion works are underway to ease congestion and improve efficiency.
A major highlight was the proposed 2,052-km Dankuni–Surat Dedicated Freight Corridor, connecting eastern India to western ports through MP and Maharashtra. The corridor will significantly enhance cargo movement, reduce logistics costs, and accelerate industrial expansion.
The new initiatives underline the government’s push toward modern rail infrastructure, seamless connectivity, and balanced regional development.
