PSP Projects Stuck in Red Tape
Delays Raise Concerns Over Execution Efficiency

Despite ambitious claims of achieving energy self-reliance, the reality of Pumped Storage Power (PSP) projects in Uttar Pradesh paints a concerning picture. A high-level review chaired by Industrial Development Minister Nand Gopal Gupta Nandi revealed persistent bottlenecks that continue to delay execution.
While the government reiterated its commitment to fast-track these projects, the discussion exposed ongoing issues related to land allocation, forest clearances, and discrepancies in revenue records. These challenges have repeatedly surfaced in review meetings, yet tangible progress on resolving them remains limited.
The state positions PSP projects as a key step toward becoming “power surplus” and boosting renewable energy capacity. However, developers are still grappling with procedural delays and lack of seamless coordination between departments. This gap between policy intent and ground execution raises serious concerns.
Major players such as Adani Green Energy Limited, JSW Energy, Torrent Power, and ReNew Power participated in the meeting, indicating strong private sector interest. However, continued delays could dampen investor confidence and slow down project timelines.
The minister emphasized better inter-departmental coordination and time-bound solutions, but recurring administrative inefficiencies suggest that systemic issues remain unresolved. Without accountability and faster decision-making, these projects risk missing critical deadlines.
As Uttar Pradesh aims for a $1 trillion economy, delays in crucial energy infrastructure could become a major roadblock. The situation highlights a familiar pattern—bold announcements overshadowed by sluggish execution.
