Body-Worn Cameras Mandatory for Inspection Drives in UP Roadways
Under the new arrangement, only one enforcement squad will operate in each region. The corporation has also directed that every squad will have only one designated driver. Additional employees currently attached with enforcement teams will now return to their original departmental responsibilities according to their sanctioned posts.
As per the new guidelines, Traffic Superintendents, Traffic Inspectors, and Assistant Traffic Inspectors will primarily handle office-related assignments, while station-related responsibilities may also be assigned to senior officials. The corporation stated that the restructuring is intended to optimize manpower utilization and reduce unnecessary operational expenses.
In a significant move towards transparency, the Managing Director clarified that any inspection conducted without a body-worn camera will not be considered valid. Regional Managers have been made personally responsible for ensuring that only disciplined officials with clean records and efficient work performance are deployed in enforcement teams.
The order further directs Regional Managers, Service Managers, and Assistant Regional Managers to personally supervise enforcement operations during the trial period. Nodal officers appointed by the corporation will closely monitor their respective regions and conduct surprise inspections whenever required.
The corporation has implemented the revised enforcement system for an initial trial period of one month. Officials have also been instructed not to repost any currently deployed traffic inspector to the same location or route after completion of the trial period.
Prabhu N. Singh expressed confidence that drivers and conductors would continue to maintain revenue performance even without excessive checking operations, reflecting discipline, accountability, and commitment towards the corporation.
