LUCKNOW. Moving aggressively towards creating a faster, safer, and cost-effective freight ecosystem, the Research Designs and Standards Organisation (RDSO), Lucknow, successfully hosted a high-level seminar. Organised in collaboration with the IRSEA Lucknow Chapter, the seminar focused on the theme ‘Innovations in Foundry, Wagon Manufacturing, and Cargo Safety Components – 2026’. The event brought together major wagon builders, foundry giants, bogie and coupler manufacturers, and top railway brass.
Addressing the gathering, Shri Prabhas Dansana, Director General of RDSO, described the component and wagon manufacturers as critical partners in strengthening the national logistics network. He revealed that through the combined efforts of RDSO and the private sector, India aims to scale up the railways’ share in total freight transportation to 45% in the near future. He stressed the need for seamless coordination to enhance operational efficiency, reliability, and manufacturing quality.
Highlighting recent upgrades, the Director General announced that RDSO has introduced vital amendments to the specifications of CASNUB bogies and Centre Buffer Couplers. To match international standards, the railway has mandated advanced metallurgy, enhanced heat-treatment processes, CNC machining, mandatory magnetic particle testing, and automated digital quality monitoring for better asset lifecycle performance.
The tech-heavy sessions inside the seminar concluded with intense deliberations on Industry 4.0, the incorporation of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in safety monitoring, and high-load capacity wagon designs. Premier industrial giants including Texmaco, Titagarh, Jupiter, Braithwaite, Kalyani Cast, Shyam Metallics, and CONCOR actively participated in the brainstorming sessions. The event also saw the presence of the ADG, along with the General Secretary of the IRSEA Lucknow Chapter and other senior directors.
