Over 16,800 Fresh Applications Inflow; Total Charted Services Revised to 199 After Policy Review

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has released its comprehensive performance analysis under the Citizen’s Charter for the month ending May 31, 2026. The statistical summary highlights a highly robust operational framework, reflecting institutional promptness in disposing of public and institutional applications. The apex bank began the financial cycle of May with a backlog of 2,473 pending applications and received a massive fresh volume of 16,865 applications during the month. Accounting for 575 applications that were reverted to applicants for additional data, the net active pool stood at 18,763.
Processing Metric: Stellar Turnaround with Minimal Delays
Out of the net caseload, the central bank successfully processed 16,209 applications in May 2026, breaking down as follows:
Within Stipulated Timeline: An overwhelming 16,193 applications (99.9%) were cleared strictly within the prescribed delivery timelines.
Beyond Timeline: A nominal 16 applications (0.1%) experienced delays and were processed after the deadline.
Closing Pendency: As of May 31, 2026, 2,554 applications remain pending. Out of these, 2,539 (99.4%) are still within their valid processing window, while 15 (0.6%) have breached the time limit. Out of the 15 delayed cases, 14 are stuck waiting for critical inputs from external regulatory agencies, and 1 is currently under active processing.

Structural Changes in Charter: To ensure consumer utility alignment, RBI conducted an internal performance audit of its services. Consequently, two (2) new services have been integrated into the ecosystem, while the service regarding the ‘Issuance of New Money Changer Licenses’ has been decommissioned. Following this adjustment, the total number of services monitored under the RBI Citizen’s Charter stands at 199.
