In a major boost to India’s horticultural research and export ecosystem, the pioneering technologies developed by the ICAR-Central Institute for Subtropical Horticulture (ICAR-CISH), Lucknow, were prominently highlighted and lauded by the Secretary (DARE) & Director General (ICAR) during his presentation at the 98th Foundation Day celebrations of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR).
Revolutionizing Mango Exports: Sea Route Slashes Logistics Costs by 93% The institute’s breakthrough ‘Sea Route Export Protocol’ has emerged as a game-changer for fruit exporters. The protocol has achieved an unprecedented reduction in transportation costs—slashing it from a hefty ₹225 per kg via air freight to a mere ₹15 per kg via sea routes. This landmark technology successfully enabled the maiden sea-route export of Indian mangoes to Singapore, vastly enhancing the global competitiveness of Indian produce.
Commercialization of Tech: Three Strategic MoUs Exchanged Fostering public-private partnerships, the event marked the release of three Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) for technology transfer. ICAR-CISH officially transferred its specialized ‘Mango Bagging’ technique and ‘Mentwash’ technology—designed to significantly enhance the shelf life of fresh fruits—to Meta Agritech for commercial scaling.
Geographical Expansion of ‘Avadh’ Mango Varieties to West Bengal To promote resilient horticulture, the nursery production technology of the institute’s high-yielding and eco-friendly mango varieties, ‘Avadh Abhay’ and ‘Avadh Samriddhi’, was officially transferred to partners in West Bengal, paving the way for the large-scale adoption of these elite varieties across eastern India.
Eco-Friendly Pest Management Solutions Unveiled Strengthening sustainable farming, the dignitaries officially released the CISH-developed ‘Fruit Fly Insect Trap’ and ‘Glo Trap’. These indigenous, cost-effective devices offer farmers an environmentally safe and highly efficient alternative to chemical pesticides, ensuring robust crop protection without ecological hazards.
