India’s outward investment momentum weakened considerably in June 2026, with fresh data showing a sharp decline in overseas financial commitments by Indian companies. According to the latest figures, total outward foreign direct investment (OFDI) financial commitments stood at USD 2.99 billion, significantly lower than USD 4.51 billion in May 2026 and USD 5.74 billion in June 2025.
The data reflects a 34% decline compared with the previous month and an almost 48% fall from the same month last year, highlighting a slowdown in overseas expansion by Indian businesses amid an uncertain global economic environment.
The weakness was visible across all major components of overseas investment. Equity commitments dropped to USD 738.32 million, down sharply from USD 1.25 billion in May and USD 2.20 billion a year earlier. Overseas loan commitments also declined to USD 469.87 million, while guarantees issued fell to USD 1.78 billion, indicating broad-based moderation in overseas financial commitments.
Although the figures remain provisional and may be revised based on reporting by authorised dealer banks, the trend points towards a more cautious investment approach by Indian corporates as they navigate global economic uncertainty, financing conditions, and geopolitical risks.
Market observers believe that if this downward trend persists, it could influence India’s global investment footprint and slow the pace of international business expansion in the coming quarters. The data suggests that companies are currently prioritising financial prudence over aggressive overseas acquisitions and investments.
