Hardoi Farmer Amar Singh Tops State Competition with 2,430 Quintals per Hectare

The Uttar Pradesh Sugarcane Development Department has announced the results of the State Sugarcane Competition for 2025-26, highlighting exceptional productivity achieved by farmers through improved varieties, scientific farming practices, drip irrigation and modern agricultural techniques.
Hardoi farmer Amar Singh emerged as the top performer in the Early Plant category, recording an impressive 2,430.00 quintals per hectare and securing the first position at the state level.
A Remarkable Yield.
Amar Singh, from Mahsulapur village under the Rupapur zone of Hardoi district, secured the top position. Pilibhit’s Sukhdeep Singh recorded 2,222.50 quintals per hectare to finish second, while Kaushal Kumar of Shahjahanpur stood third with 2,167.50 quintals per hectare.
Shamli Leads the Ratoon Category.
In the Ratoon category, Shamli farmer Devendra secured first place with a yield of 1,998.50 quintals per hectare. Sudhir of Saharanpur and Anuj Panwar of Baghpat secured second and third positions with yields of 1,936.00 and 1,935.00 quintals per hectare respectively.
In the General Plant category, Kaushal Kumar of Shahjahanpur topped the list with 1,725.50 quintals per hectare.
Drip Irrigation Delivers.
The results also highlighted the potential of efficient irrigation technology. In the Drip Irrigated Plant category, Akshansh Singh of Bijnor secured first position with 2,068.50 quintals per hectare.
In the Drip Irrigated Ratoon category, Shamli farmer Indrapal Singh emerged first with 1,865.00 quintals per hectare.
The Young Sugarcane Farmer Plant category was topped by Nitin Chaudhary of Muzaffarnagar with 1,690.50 quintals per hectare, while Ujjwal Deshwal of Shamli secured first place in the Young Sugarcane Farmer Ratoon category with 1,507.00 quintals per hectare.
Encouraging Eastern UP.
To encourage sugarcane cultivation in eastern Uttar Pradesh, four farmers were given incentive awards of ₹5,000 each. The awardees included farmers from Kushinagar, Basti and Maharajganj.
Recognition for Excellence.
First-prize winners will receive ₹51,000, second-prize winners ₹31,000 and third-prize winners ₹21,000, along with mementoes and certificates.
According to the department, the competition aims to promote healthy competition among sugarcane growers and increase per-hectare productivity. The state recorded an average sugarcane productivity of 825.60 quintals per hectare in 2025-26.
The department attributed the achievements to improved varieties, scientific farming, modern agricultural technologies, drip irrigation and technical guidance extended to farmers.
