: Uttar Pradesh has secured the first position in the country under the Pradhan Mantri Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana, marking a significant milestone in the state’s push towards rooftop solar and clean energy. A special programme was organised at the UPNEDA office to mark the achievement, with Urban Development and Energy Minister A.K. Sharma participating in the event.

The minister was felicitated for his guidance and congratulated UPNEDA officials, employees, solar-sector stakeholders and citizens for their collective contribution. He also expressed his gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath for their leadership and guidance.

A Collective Achievement.

Sharma said Uttar Pradesh’s first position under the PM Surya Ghar scheme was not the achievement of any single individual or institution. According to him, the recognition reflects the collective efforts of departmental officials and employees, stakeholders associated with the solar sector and citizens across the state.

He described UPNEDA as a prestigious institution for Uttar Pradesh and said the national first position was a matter of pride for its entire team.

No Pause After No. 1.

The minister stressed that securing the top position should not become a reason to slow down. He urged officials to maintain the pace of solar expansion and work with renewed commitment to take the state to greater heights.

Using a sporting metaphor, he said, “We have to move at the pace of a hare, but we must not stop and sleep like the hare.”

A Vision Becomes Reality.

Recalling the early days of rooftop solar installations in Uttar Pradesh, Sharma said the number of installations was initially very limited. He recalled encouraging officials and employees with the belief that UPNEDA would one day become the country’s leading institution in the field. According to him, that moment has now arrived as a result of sustained teamwork.

He also recalled his earlier experience in Gujarat, where he said Prime Minister Narendra Modi had entrusted him with identifying land for Gujarat’s first solar park. He said the transformation initiated in the solar-energy sector is now reaching households, with Uttar Pradesh moving rapidly in the same direction.

Solar Power for Nature.

Sharma emphasised that rooftop solar is not merely a means of meeting electricity requirements. It also contributes to environmental protection by promoting clean energy and helping reduce pollution.

He said adopting solar energy is, in essence, also a form of service to nature.

Principal Secretary, Energy, Ranveer Prasad; UPNEDA Director Ravindra Kumar; Secretary Pankaj Singh; departmental officials, UPNEDA employees and several solar-sector stakeholders attended the programme.
