The political atmosphere in Uttar Pradesh has intensified once again over the state’s law and order policy. Samajwadi Party National President and former Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav has launched a scathing attack on the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government. The SP chief alleged that Uttar Pradesh is currently witnessing an “era of fake encounters.” He further accused the administration of intentionally suppressing the data regarding custodial deaths to keep the public in the dark.

Allegations of Hiding Custodial Death Data

Speaking on the state’s current scenario, Akhilesh Yadav stated that there is a complete lack of transparency regarding the number of deaths occurring in police custody. He claimed that no official or clear records are being made available anywhere. According to the SP leader, even though the government is trying hard to hide the statistics, the rising number of alleged fake encounters speaks volumes about the actual ground reality in Uttar Pradesh.

‘Muslims and Brahmins Suffered Most Casualties in Encounters’

Raising serious questions over the demographics of those killed in police actions, the SP supremo made a highly sensitive assertion. He stated, “If we analyze the pattern of encounters in Uttar Pradesh, it becomes crystal clear that the highest number of people killed belong to the Muslim community. After them, the Brahmin community has been targeted the most.” Yadav further added that people from the Yadav, Kurmi, and other backward castes follow next in numbers, suggesting a biased approach by the police.

Controversy Over the 19 Mafia Names Submitted to High Court

Taking his attack further, Akhilesh Yadav raised a major question mark over a document submitted by the state government to the judiciary. He pointed out that the Uttar Pradesh government recently presented a list of the 19 biggest mafias of the state to the Honorable High Court. “What is astonishing is that all 19 names listed by the government belong to one single caste,” Yadav claimed, implying that the administration’s crackdown on crime is selective and driven by caste considerations.
