The global health services portfolio is making steady progress toward its ambitious goal of delivering quality and affordable healthcare to 1.5 billion people by 2030. Between July 2023 and March 2026, a cumulative achievement of $575 million has been recorded, reflecting strong momentum in expanding healthcare access across regions.

With 33 months elapsed (39.3% of the timeline) and overall progress nearing 38%, the initiative remains broadly on track. The program is being driven by major institutions like the International Development Association and International Bank for Reconstruction and Development, supporting 134 active projects out of a total of 208 worldwide.

The initiative focuses on expanding healthcare coverage across all life stages, particularly targeting underserved and hard-to-reach populations. By reducing financial barriers and improving service delivery, it aims to ensure that healthcare becomes more accessible and equitable.

Healthcare is not just a social necessity—it is also a key economic driver. A healthier population contributes to higher productivity, stronger workforce participation, and overall economic growth. At the same time, the healthcare sector itself generates significant employment opportunities.

A notable example is the Tamil Nadu Health System Reform Program in India, which aims to improve quality of care, strengthen the management of non-communicable diseases, and reduce inequalities in reproductive and child health services. The project aligns with the global objective of achieving Sustainable Development Goal 3, which focuses on ensuring healthy lives and promoting well-being for all.

Overall, the portfolio highlights a balanced approach—addressing immediate healthcare needs while building long-term system resilience. By combining targeted interventions with structural reforms, the initiative is shaping a more inclusive and sustainable global health ecosystem.
