In a monumental milestone for India’s rural banking sector, Regional Rural Banks (RRBs) have delivered an unprecedented performance in the financial year 2025-26. A comprehensive performance review meeting held in New Delhi under the chairmanship of the Secretary, Department of Financial Services, highlighted the remarkable growth trajectory of all 28 RRBs operating across 22,273 branches in 26 States and 3 Union Territories.

Surpassing Expectations with Record Numbers

The total business handled by all 28 RRBs has successfully crossed the monumental milestone of ₹13.5 lakh crore, outperforming several individual Public Sector Banks. Demonstrating robust financial health, the consolidated net profit of RRBs touched an all-time high of ₹10,176 crore in FY 2025-26, a massive jump from ₹6,820 crore in FY 2024-25. Quality of assets has also witnessed a historic improvement, with Gross NPAs dropping to 5.3% and Net NPAs easing down to 2.1%.

Empowering Grassroots and Expanding Digital Horizons

Continuing their core objective of driving financial inclusion, RRBs successfully opened over 54.98 lakh new PMJDY accounts during the fiscal year, reinforcing their unwavering commitment to marginalized communities. Furthermore, the Credit-Deposit (CD) ratio scaled a historic high of 75.2%, ensuring optimized credit flow to priority sectors.

Looking forward, the Department of Financial Services has urged RRBs to accelerate the adoption of modern digital infrastructure. The focus is now firmly set on expanding high-speed digital banking services to remote rural geographies, ensuring that the country’s youth and every underserved section of society reap the benefits of India’s rapid financial evolution.
