A high-profile memorial meeting was organized at the Samajwadi Party State Headquarters in Lucknow to observe the death anniversary of Bharat Ratna and former Prime Minister of India, Chaudhary Charan Singh. On behalf of Samajwadi Party National President and former Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav, National Secretary and former Cabinet Minister Rajendra Chaudhary paid floral tributes by offering garlands at the portrait of Chaudhary Saheb. SP State President Shyam Lal Pal also offered his deep respects on the occasion.
Conveying the vision of SP Chief Akhilesh Yadav, the leaders highlighted that the entire life of former Prime Minister Chaudhary Charan Singh was selflessly dedicated to the welfare of farmers, laborers, and the marginalized sections of society. He took monumental decisions in the interest of the agrarian community, with the abolition of the Zamindari system being his most historic and impactful reform. It is due to his visionary steps that farmers across the nation still revere him as their ultimate messiah.
According to Akhilesh Yadav, the Samajwadi Party remains stringently committed to the welfare of the farming community by following the path illuminated by Chaudhary Charan Singh. To honor his unmatched legacy, the erstwhile Samajwadi government had officially declared the year 2016 as the ‘Year of the Farmer’ (Kisan Varsh). Furthermore, whenever the Samajwadi Party formed the government in Uttar Pradesh, major pro-farmer policies were executed, and nearly 75 percent of the state budget was systematically dedicated to rural development and agriculture.
Prominent leaders, including former MP Arvind Kumar Singh and former MLA Vijay Paswan, also paid emotional tributes. A large contingent of party leaders and grassroots workers, including Lalit Arya, Shamshad Hussain, Dharmendra Singh Yadav, Ramudit, Ravi Paswan, Pradeep Singh Pannu, and Om Prakash Yadav from various districts, gathered to vow to continue the struggle for farmers’ rights.
