15-day programme in Lucknow aims to strengthen skills, promote self-employment and support indigenous products
Training Opens New Pathways

Lucknow. A 15-day skill improvement training programme for 50 selected rural women from different parts of Lucknow district has commenced at the Divisional Khadi and Village Industries Training Centre in Daliganj.
The programme, being conducted from August 10 to August 25, 2026, is designed to strengthen practical skills and encourage women to move towards self-employment.
Two Trades, 50 Trainees
Under the programme, 25 women are receiving training in jute bag manufacturing under the Skill Improvement (SCSP) programme, while another 25 women are being trained in chikankari under the general Skill Improvement Training Programme.
The initiative combines skill development with information on government-supported opportunities for establishing enterprises.
Formal Inauguration
The training programme was inaugurated by Baijnath Rawat, Chairman of the Uttar Pradesh Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes Commission. He formally launched the programme by cutting the ribbon, garlanding Mahatma Gandhi’s statue and lighting the ceremonial lamp.
Addressing the trainees, Rawat encouraged them to develop greater proficiency in their respective trades and use government schemes to establish their own employment opportunities. He also emphasised the importance of promoting indigenous products.
Government Schemes Explained
Lucknow District Village Industries Officer Avadhesh Kumar Gautam briefed the participants about financing opportunities available under schemes including the Prime Minister’s Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP), Chief Minister Village Industries Employment Scheme and Chief Minister Youth Entrepreneur Promotion Scheme.
The objective is to help trained women move beyond classroom-level learning and explore avenues for enterprise creation.
Promoting Local Skills
Former Deputy Director of the Information Department Madhu Tambe also encouraged the participants to contribute towards strengthening local industries and indigenous products.
Training Centre Principal Tanuja discussed key aspects of the skill improvement programme and guided participants on the training process.
Officials Attend Programme
Training In-charge Mahendra Pratap Singh, Senior Assistant Shishupal Singh and Industrial Cooperative Supervisor Jitendra Nath Shukla, along with other staff members, were present.
The programme represents an effort to connect rural women with practical skills, entrepreneurship opportunities and government financing support, while strengthening traditional and locally relevant products such as chikankari and jute bags.
