Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the India AI Impact Summit 2026 at Bharat Mandapam, describing Artificial Intelligence as a transformative moment in human civilization. He emphasized that while AI is making machines intelligent, its greater significance lies in amplifying human potential.
Calling for the democratization of AI, the Prime Minister said the technology must serve as a tool of inclusion and empowerment, particularly for the Global South. He introduced India’s ‘MANAV’ vision for AI—Moral and Ethical Systems, Accountable Governance, National Sovereignty, Accessible and Inclusive, and Valid and Legitimate.
Modi stressed that AI should remain human-centered, with ultimate control in human hands. Highlighting concerns around deepfakes and misinformation, he called for authenticity labels, watermarking, and transparent standards for digital content to build trust from the outset.

He noted that humanity is entering an era of co-creation and co-development between humans and intelligent systems. AI, he said, will make work smarter, more efficient, and more impactful, while opening new opportunities for innovation and entrepreneurship. He also urged large-scale investment in skill development and lifelong learning.
The summit witnessed participation from over 100 countries, including French President Emmanuel Macron and senior global leaders.
Reaffirming India’s commitment, the Prime Minister stated that the country sees AI as an opportunity and a pathway to the future, inviting the world to “Design in India and Develop for Humanity.”
