Research, Innovation & Modernisation Set for Big Push

In a significant development for Indian Railways, Shri Prabhas Dansana has officially assumed charge as Director General of the Research Designs and Standards Organisation (RDSO) on February 17, 2026. A 1989-batch officer of the Indian Railway Traffic Service (IRTS), Dansana brings over three decades of rich operational and strategic experience to the premier research and standards body of Indian Railways.
Before taking over as DG/RDSO, Dansana served as Principal Executive Director, Traffic Transportation (M), at the Railway Board, where he oversaw freight operations and played a key role in national-level policy formulation. His leadership significantly contributed to strengthening freight logistics and optimizing network capacity.
Since June 2024, he has also been serving as Part-time Government Director on the Board of Container Corporation of India (CONCOR), shaping strategic decisions in multimodal logistics and containerized freight movement. Additionally, he has been associated as Part-time Government Director with Pipavav Railway Corporation Limited, further deepening his involvement in integrated rail-port logistics operations.
Joining Indian Railways in 1991, Dansana has held several high-impact leadership roles. As Principal Chief Operations Manager (PCOM) in South Eastern Railway and Eastern Railway, he strengthened freight and passenger operations. In Northeast Frontier Railway, he served as Principal Chief Commercial Manager (PCCM), driving commercial strategies and revenue growth.
During his tenure as Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) of Sealdah Division, he implemented punctuality reforms and introduced innovative measures in suburban train services. At Metro Railway Kolkata, as Chief Traffic Manager, he spearheaded the commissioning of the Automatic Fare Collection System, significantly enhancing commuter convenience and operational efficiency.
As Director General of RDSO, Dansana is expected to accelerate research, standards development, technological innovation, and safety advancements. His appointment aligns with Indian Railways’ broader vision of modernization, enhanced safety, and capacity augmentation.
