Opposition Alleges Large-Scale Government School Closures Under BJP Rule

Anytime News Network | Pooja Srivastava

The issue of government school closures has triggered sharp political reactions, with allegations that the ruling party has weakened the public education system. Critics claim that in the past five years, 18,727 government schools have been shut, raising concerns about access to education for underprivileged communities.

Opposition voices argue that the closure of public schools disproportionately affects economically weaker sections, for whom government education remains the most accessible pathway to social mobility. They also warn that the discontinuation of schemes like mid-day meals could adversely impact children’s nutrition and overall development.

Concerns have been raised over teachers being assigned non-academic duties, allegedly disrupting classroom teaching and affecting morale within the education system. Analysts suggest that rising dependence on private schools could impose heavy financial burdens on low-income families.

Calls are growing to transform symbolic campaigns like “PDA Pathshala” into broader public movements to safeguard access to education. Political observers believe that education may emerge as a decisive electoral issue in the coming elections.
