: Bahujan Samaj Party chief and former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati has announced the return of Akash Anand to an active organisational role in the party, appointing him again as the BSP National Convener. Mayawati said the decision was taken after careful consideration and in the interest of the party and the broader movement.

A Legacy of Struggle

In her statement, Mayawati invoked the legacy of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar and Kanshi Ram, describing their sacrifice, struggle and ideals as a continuing source of inspiration for the Bahujan movement.

She said the BSP had achieved significant political successes by following these principles and was now preparing intensively for the forthcoming Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections with an emphasis on reaching out to all sections of society.

Discipline Comes First

Mayawati underlined that maintaining discipline within the organisation remained a priority. She said several strict decisions had been taken in recent days and stressed that members of her own family had never been treated as exceptions.

She reiterated that the entire Bahujan community was her “vast family” and that its welfare remained her foremost concern.

Questions Around Akash

Mayawati said Akash Anand’s personality and role in the party had been satisfactory to a considerable extent, but certain developments in recent times had required organisational changes.

She also referred to Akash Anand’s father-in-law, Ashok Siddharth, retiring from active politics. According to Mayawati, changes in Akash Anand’s personality and working style had subsequently been noticed, including his recent social-media post expressing his desire to return to active party work.

A Fresh Opportunity

Mayawati said that a large section of the party had favoured accepting Akash Anand’s request and giving him another opportunity to work with his earlier responsibilities. She added that his father Anand Kumar and younger brother Ishan Anand had also expressed their support for the decision.

With the latest announcement, Akash Anand has once again been entrusted with a major organisational responsibility. Mayawati expressed hope that the party would now function smoothly and that repeated organisational changes would not be necessary.

However, she also made it clear that the future course would depend significantly on Akash Anand’s own conduct, working style and performance.
