. In a major breakthrough, Dr. Shakuntala Misra National Rehabilitation University has received its first-ever international grant from the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), amounting to ₹1.68 crore. The grant will be facilitated through Japan-based prosthetics company Instalimb.

Under this initiative, a state-of-the-art 3D printing laboratory will be established at the university’s Artificial Limb and Rehabilitation Centre. The facility will enable the production of high-precision prosthetic limbs for persons with disabilities, particularly those with above-knee and below-knee amputations, free of cost.

Takayuki Tanaka, Vice President of Instalimb, visited the campus and met Vice Chancellor Acharya Sanjay Singh. Impressed by the institution’s infrastructure and commitment, he approved the provision of advanced machinery and technology for the project.

The university will soon sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Instalimb. The project will be executed in four phases, including installation of equipment, expert training, certification and operationalization, and integration of the technology into academic programs.

Notably, Instalimb will provide trained professionals for one year to ensure skill development of university staff. This will significantly enhance both the quality and scale of prosthetic production.

Vice Chancellor Sanjay Singh termed the development a “moment of pride,” stating that collaboration with UNIDO will open new avenues in rehabilitation, research, and innovation. He emphasized that 3D printing technology will help deliver better outcomes and improve accessibility for a larger section of society.

This initiative is expected to set a benchmark in inclusive healthcare and technological advancement, not only for Lucknow but for the entire region.
